Horry County fugitive tied to May SWAT response in Socastee captured in Delaware
SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — A fugitive connected to a SWAT response along Highway 17 Bypass in Socastee in May was captured Wednesday in Delaware, according to the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
Terrell Jefferies was taken into custody after an Horry County deputy assigned to the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked him to Delaware and coordinated his arrest with local authorities. He is awaiting extradition to Horry County, where he’s charged with first-degree assault and battery and reckless discharge of a firearm.
The search for Jefferies began on May 1 when the sheriff’s office got a tip that he was inside a building at 4835 Highway 17 Bypass, which is along Frontage Road across from Palmetto Pointe Boulevard in the Socastee area.
More than a dozen Horry County Sheriff’s Office and Horry County Police Department vehicles swarmed to the areas shortly after 3 p.m. The road remained blocked for more than an hour as they set up a perimeter around the building and evacuated adjacent units.
Authorities left the scene nearly two hours later after determining that Jefferies was not in the area.
