EastEnders’ Grant Mitchell tells major lie after harsh Mark rejection
EastEnders has seen Grant Mitchell take a big risk in his bid to fix his relationship with his son Mark Fowler. The father-son duo recently got into a nasty physical fight at the Queen Vic, leaving Grant feeling sorry for himself.
In tonight’s scenes, Max Branning was investigating Mark after finding his keys on the car lot and connecting him to some vehicles that’d been set on fire.

Convinced that Mark was behind the break-in at Maximum Motors, Max urged his daughter Lauren to stay away from him. Little did Max know that Lauren had been in cahoots with Mark, with the pair selling stolen cars and making fast cash for Lauren to become co-owner of the car lot.
Meanwhile, Grant was drowning his sorrows at the bar, where he opened up on his plans to move to Portugal. Pub landlady Kat Moon listened to him, though she suggested he would always go back to Walford eventually.

“Every time I leave this place, there’s one thing less to come back for,” a resigned Grant said.
Later on, Linda Carter checked in on Grant after having rejected his drunken advances. The two cleared the air as she urged him to talk to Mark
When father and son finally came face to face again, Grant pleaded with Mark to consider going to Portugal with him. Grant begged his son to be careful, warning him that his dodgy affairs could land him in jail for a long time, or worse.
Mark made it very clear he had no intention to go live with his dad and wasn’t interested in trying to get to know each other, but Grant was determined to try and be there for him, no matter the cost.

In the final scenes, Grant proved his loyalty to his son, getting him out of a sticky situation with Max and Cindy Beale. When Cindy lied and said she saw Mark stealing the cars, Grant interjected and took the blame.
“She’s lying,” Grant said. “Mark didn’t torch those cars. I did.”
In the aftermath of the explosive confrontation at the Queen Vic, tensions across Walford only continued to rise as Grant Mitchell struggled to repair the damage done between himself and Mark Fowler. Although Grant publicly took the blame for the burned cars in a desperate attempt to protect his son, it quickly became obvious that the situation was far from over. Rumours spread through Albert Square at lightning speed, and before long, nearly everyone had an opinion about Grant’s shocking confession.
Back at No. 25, Mark was left stunned by what his father had done. While he had spent weeks pushing Grant away and insisting he wanted nothing to do with him, seeing Grant sacrifice himself forced Mark to reconsider everything. Lauren Branning also began panicking as she realised the police investigation could eventually lead back to her involvement in the stolen car scheme. Though she tried to stay calm, her nerves became increasingly obvious whenever Max brought up the case.
Meanwhile, Max Branning wasn’t convinced by Grant’s confession at all. The more he thought about it, the more certain he became that Grant was covering for Mark. Furious over the destruction connected to Maximum Motors, Max privately vowed to uncover the truth himself if the police failed to do so. Cindy Beale also remained suspicious, especially after noticing how defensive Grant became whenever Mark’s name was mentioned.
At The Vic, Kat Moon attempted to reason with Grant once more. She warned him that taking the fall for Mark might only encourage his son to continue making reckless decisions. But Grant refused to listen. Deep down, he believed this was his only chance to finally prove to Mark that he cared. After years of absence and disappointment, Grant knew words alone would never fix their fractured relationship.
Elsewhere, Linda Carter found herself increasingly worried about Grant’s mental state. After their earlier conversation, she could tell he was carrying enormous guilt over the years he had lost with his son. Linda encouraged him not to give up hope completely, insisting that Mark’s anger came from hurt rather than hatred. Though Grant appreciated her support, he admitted he feared it might already be too late.
As pressure mounted, Mark began clashing with Lauren behind closed doors. Lauren wanted them both to lie low until the investigation cooled off, but Mark was becoming consumed with guilt over his father’s sacrifice. He admitted he never expected Grant to protect him in such a drastic way. Lauren, however, worried that Mark’s emotions could expose both of them.
Things became even more complicated when Jack Branning received new information suggesting Grant’s timeline didn’t fully add up. Jack quietly shared his concerns with Max, who immediately pushed for further digging. Convinced Mark was still hiding something, Max started watching his every move around the Square.
At the café, Kathy Beale overheard conversations about Grant’s confession and began wondering whether the Mitchell hardman had genuinely changed. Some residents believed Grant was finally trying to become a better father, while others argued he was simply enabling Mark’s criminal behaviour. The divided opinions only added to the growing tension spreading through Walford.
Later in the week, Grant attempted one final heartfelt conversation with Mark. Meeting near the Arches late at night, Grant admitted he regretted missing so much of Mark’s life. He confessed that leaving Walford years earlier had been the biggest mistake he ever made. For a brief moment, Mark appeared emotional as he listened to his father speak honestly for the first time.
However, their fragile truce was interrupted when police suddenly arrived to question Grant again. Someone had anonymously reported seeing another person near the cars on the night of the fire. Grant instantly realised the walls were beginning to close in, but he stubbornly refused to change his story.
Mark watched the entire situation unfold from a distance, clearly shaken. Despite everything, he couldn’t ignore the fact that Grant was risking prison to protect him. Later, in an emotional scene, Mark confided in Lauren that part of him actually wanted to believe his father cared. Lauren warned him not to let emotions cloud his judgment, reminding him that getting caught would ruin both their futures.
Meanwhile, Cindy Beale decided to take matters into her own hands. Determined to expose the truth, she began secretly questioning people connected to the garage business. Cindy’s meddling soon alarmed Lauren, who feared they were running out of time before everything unravelled.
Over at The Vic, Phil Mitchell returned and immediately sensed something was wrong with Grant. After hearing about the confession, Phil confronted his brother privately and demanded to know whether he was lying to protect Mark. Grant eventually admitted the truth but insisted he had no regrets. Phil warned him that sacrificing himself wouldn’t magically fix years of broken trust.
The brothers soon argued bitterly, with Phil accusing Grant of acting out of guilt rather than genuine responsibility. Grant fired back that Phil had no right to judge him after all the mistakes the Mitchell family had made over the years. Their heated exchange drew attention from several locals, further fuelling gossip around the Square.
As the investigation intensified, Lauren became increasingly desperate. Fearing arrest, she suggested fleeing Walford altogether before the police uncovered concrete evidence. Mark initially rejected the idea, unwilling to abandon Grant after everything he had done. But Lauren argued that staying would only destroy all of their lives.
Eventually, Mark confronted Grant once again, demanding to know why he kept protecting him. In a raw emotional moment, Grant admitted that despite all the fighting and rejection, Mark was still his son and he couldn’t bear the thought of losing him forever. The confession visibly affected Mark, who struggled to hide his emotions.
For the first time, Mark finally admitted that growing up without Grant had deeply affected him. He revealed years of resentment, anger, and disappointment that he had buried for so long. Grant listened silently, clearly devastated by the pain he had caused.
Though the conversation didn’t magically heal their relationship, it marked a turning point between them. Mark stopped short of forgiving his father completely, but he finally acknowledged that Grant was trying.
In the closing moments, another dramatic twist hit Walford when Jack informed Max that new evidence had emerged in the case. As panic spread among those involved, Mark was left facing an impossible decision — continue letting Grant take the blame, or finally tell the truth and risk destroying both himself and Lauren forever.
And judging by the tension building across Albert Square, the fallout is only just beginning.
