Days of Our Lives’ Brady and Belle Find the First Clue In Stefano’s Chess Mystery — and It Can Only Mean One Thing!
And just like that, Days of Our Lives is off and running with Stefano’s final mystery. Hopefully final mystery. No offense, but he has been dead for some time. Eventually he has to run out of tricks and surprises! In any case, Friday’s Days of Our Lives began marking the one year anniversary of John’s passing — and Marlena celebrated by dumping the mysterious chess set Stefano left her and John on Brady.
But Brady and Belle (once she joined her brother) just couldn’t resist the mystery of the chess set, so they set about putting all the pieces on the board. Well, almost all the pieces. It’s missing (what else?) a pawn. Presumably, though, it’s not the pawn that Stefano left to represent John. Our best guess? It does represent someone, but that someone is a missing child!

It’s not the first time we thought that’s where this story was going, but before we thought the missing child might belong to Marlena and (ick) Stefano. Now, we’re thinking there’s a good chance that child could belong to Marlena and John!
How? Well, Marlena and John first got together in 1986, back when they thought he was Roman, and they “renewed” their vows. Shortly after, it was Marlena’s turn to “die” for a few years before being revealed to be alive. It’s not hard to imagine that before she vanished, the two, excited to be reunited, conceived a child that they never knew about before Marlena’s disappearance.
This is when she went into a coma and Stefano ended up getting a hold of her, and Marlena could have given birth without ever knowing she was pregnant. While we previously pondered the horrifying prospect that Stefano used that time to create a child with Marlena, the chess set has us thinking on a whole other level now.

Why would Stefano leave it to John (and Marlena)? Why would he leave out a special Pawn and Queen unless it had to do with both of them? And if the missing pawn isn’t John’s Pawn, then wouldn’t it stand to reason that it represents someone missing from the “chess board” of Salem? Someone like a lost child of John and Marlena’s!
In fact, what could be more symbolic than John’s kids finding the first clue to this? Stefano could have easily taken the tot for his own nefarious purposes and raised him or her without any knowledge of their parents. This chess set could be one last, true, gift to his longtime foes: Giving John and Marlena back the child they never knew they had. Sadly, John’s gone and would never get to meet them, but Marlena could find one last, loving connection to her husband
