‘S.W.A.T.’ Spinoff ‘Exiles’ Gets Release Date at Starz with Shemar Moore Returning

Shemar Moore‘s return as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is just months away.
The actor, 56, officially has a date set to gear back up as the fictional sergeant in S.W.A.T. spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles, which premieres on Sept. 25 on Starz.
The spinoff from Sony Pictures Television is “coming in hot,” Moore said in a statement on Monday, June 29. Deadline was the first outlet to share the release news. The show began production in Los Angeles in October.
“I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S. A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together,” Moore said of the show, which also secured distribution deals in every major region. “What makes this moment even more special is that we’re reaching audiences in all major territories worldwide. Fans everywhere will get to experience this epic new ride together.”
“S.W.A.T. Exiles engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” Alison Hoffman, president of STARZ Networks, said in an additional statement. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”
Moore also celebrated the win on Instagram on Monday, telling fans that the show “got the greenlight” because “Shemar Franklin Moore don’t fail.”
The new show follows Hondo as he’s “pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance, experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits” after a “high-profile mission goes sideways,” per a synopsis. “Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is,” the description continues.
Other series regulars will include Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein. S.W.A.T. returnees Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit and David Lim will also appear.
“Exiles honors everything audiences love about the original: big epic action, adrenaline,” showrunner Jason Ning said in a previous statement. “But it pushes it into more personal territory. This time, it’s not just about what happens on the streets of L.A., it’s about what it costs the people in that stack. Pairing a battle-tested leader like Hondo with a generation that challenges him at every turn creates real friction, and real evolution. It feels modern, character-driven, and built for the long haul.”
Moore previously teased the spinoff of the CBS series when it was showcased at MIPCOM CANNES, sharing that it’s “about to take the franchise to a whole new level — bigger, better, and edgier.” Ning will also executive produce the series, while Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan will also serve as EPs.
S.W.A.T. Exiles will launch on Sept. 25 on Starz in the U.S. New episodes will air weekly on Fridays and stream on the Starz app, as well as across all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms.
