What happened? Actress Marisa Ramirez of the TV series Blue Bloods has unexpectedly passed away

Detectives Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) reunited in the Boston Blue Season 1 finale after breaking up earlier this season (and Blue Bloods fans let out a collective sigh of relief). When Danny’s partner, Lena, (Sonequa Martin-Green) nearly died in a dangerous investigation, it made the couple realize what was really important. Danny offered to buy a bigger house in Boston where they could live with Baez’s mother, who is sick with Alzheimer’s, and her daughter. Baez said yes without hesitation, but will she actually move to Beantown in Boston Blue Season 2? And when? We got an answer from the creators of Boston Blue.

Danny and Baez had been trying to make a long-distance relationship work all season. The pressure of missing her mother’s rare lucid days while traveling, plus the difficulties of living so far from Danny, made Baez choose to end their relationship before they could start to resent each other. This was in Episode 15. In the finale (Episode 20), Baez rushed to Danny’s side.

When she arrived at the hospital chapel, where he stayed for hours praying for Lena to pull through, Danny called Baez “baby” when she walked in. Clearly, there was no loss of love between them after the breakup, and Danny probably didn’t feel like they had really split.

Boston Blue co-creator Brandon Sonnier told TV Insider that there’s going to be “a small time jump” at the beginning of Season 2 “so that we can get beyond the recovery that Lena has to go through in order to get her and Danny back out on the streets together.” Will Danny and Baez already be living together by then?

“We follow the thread that Danny starts at the end of the season by saying they’ve taken it too slow for too long and then inviting her to move in. So yes, she will come to Boston,” Sonnier said. “But we do have to work through the realities of she has a whole life in New York that she sort of needs to unwind from.”

“She has a mom who’s in a professional care facility. She has a daughter,” he continued. “And so all of those things need to be dealt with and sort of figured out and sorted before she can fully commit to living in Boston with Danny.”

Lena’s boyfriend, Detective Brian Rodgers (Ryan Broussard), was involved in a potentially fatal car accident in the finale’s final moments. He was driving to the Silver family dinner with a bouquet of flowers for Lena when someone driving a gray truck intentionally T-boned his car, sending his vehicle flying into the river.

Sonnier confirmed that this was done on purpose, setting up a mystery to solve in Season 2, premiering this fall.

After the small time jump in the Season 2 premiere, Boston Blue “will pick up that story and we will fill in the blanks on what happened that night,” said Sonnier.Marisa Ramirez Talks Her 'Blue Bloods' Journey and Thoughts on the Show's Ending – The Nerds of Color

Added co-creator Brandon Margolis, “At the start of Season 2, Danny, Lena, and the rest of the Silvers and Boston police in general are on the hunt for the driver of that gray truck.”
