The Rookie fans will want to pay attention to this.
According to a video posted on ABC’s official TikTok account on May 11, there’s a The Rookie spinoff in the works. The show will likely premiere in the winter of 2027 and will be aptly titled The Rookie: North.
“From the streets you know to a whole new frontier,” the caption read alongside a clip of a police car on the road in the middle of a forest. “The Rookie: North is coming soon to ABC and Hulu.”
While many fans were thrilled by the expansion, some had questions about what it would mean for the original series.
“Noooooo. Just gimme season 9 instead 😭,” one person begged in the comments. “WHAT ABOUT S9 OF THE ROOKIE I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS 😭,” another cried out. “I am only going to watch The Rookie North just so I don’t have to wait until season 9 of the original rookie,” a different follower noted.
Well, The Rookie fans don’t need to worry about the future of the original series, since the show will return for season 9 in early 2027.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the new show will follow Alex Holland (played by Jay Ellis), who “believes his midlife isn’t worthy of a crisis.” But when a home invasion occurs, he decides to reflect on a lifetime of failures by trying to make it as a rookie cop in the Pierce County Police Department. And as he “polices from the urban coast to the rural forest where backup isn’t just five minutes away, Alex must prove to his skeptical training officer, his fellow rookies and himself, that he’s finally found something worthy of the fight.”
This is the second spinoff from the hit franchise (the first was The Rookie: Feds, which ended after one season in May 2023).
Jay appeared thrilled by the news.
“If a fool persists in his folly, he becomes wise… and he’ll dance and have a lot of fun with really good people!!” he wrote on Instagram on May 11. “The Rookie: North is going to series. I probably should have said that sooner
